Thousands of firefighters are battling wildfires across California as a growing blaze has forced 2,400 people to evacuate their homes in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
The fire, which has scorched about 2,800 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, started around 7pm local time on Wednesday.
Firefighters have said they are finding it hard to contain the flames and dry conditions could intensify the blaze.
It has threatened more than a thousand homes and authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for the entire community of Bonny Doon, which has about 2,000 residents and several wineries, the California fire department said.
Other fires have also broken out across the state including a blaze in Santa Barbara and two in far northern California.
The blaze is about three miles from the site of last year's Martin Fire, which burned 520 acres and destroyed 11 buildings in the Bonny Doon area in June 2008.
There have been no reports of injuries or property damage related to the fire, whose cause is under investigation.
